Hello and welcome to my new WordPress blog, which signals the end of my patience with MySpace and its appalling amount of downtime. This is where I’ll be blogging stuff about comedy (both my own and other people’s) as well as my views and observations about other important stuff. Nuclear war, peg-bags, that sort of thing. So to start I thought I’d give you an update on where I am with the writing and podcasting one month into the year:
Topical Pish – new weekly podcast, struggling for an audience despite a fair bit of cross-promotion. Very pleased with the show creatively, but the motivation is waning with such low figures. Trying not to lose faith!
Clever Little Pod – still averaging once a month with no loss of audience, so still very much active. I would like to do some live shows over the summer and am working on a format that will be recognisable as CLP while expanding the length to two hours. Will most likely consist of regular features that encourage audience participation, pre-recorded sketches with exclusive webcam extras (!) and some – although not too much – music. This is the most exciting project in the pipeline, although it will become less so if I’m broadcasting to an audience of 3! There’s also a CLP best-of-the-music special in the pipeline for March.
Clever Little Pod CD – This is a lot of work – an 80-minute special on a theme with no music breaks. The intention is to submit this as an idea for indie producers to take to Radio 4. If nothing happens with it, then it’ll be published on CD and marketed for Christmas this year. The idea is such that it could also be adapted for live stage performance, which is something I’m keen to explore here in Brum. Taking a fair amount of research to get right, but will be worth the effort I think. Would love to get it professionally recorded…
Old Rope – sitcom being re-worked. The characters weren’t working at all, although I’m pleased with the gag-rate. Taking second place to the CLP CD at the moment.
Sodham Hall – sitcom set in a stately home. Needs more attention than I can give it at the moment, although I’ve worked out storylines for a series of 6.
Comedy Show Guides – I’m writing the show-guides for ‘Saturday Night Fry’ and ‘Victor Lewis-Smith’ on the new British Guide to Comedy website.
So that’s where I’m at with everything at the moment. I think I have just the right number of projects on the go, as I’m enjoying moving from one to another depending on my mood. Topical Pish usually gets written on the day, CLP slowly comes together over the month, and the other stuff is worked on sporadically until I hit a wall.
And when I’m not doing any of the above, I’m kicking ass at Scrabulous!!
…sometimes…
